Why Ora

Built for what matters.

Apple Silicon Metal GPU MLX Swift

Runs on your Mac.

Every inference stage — voice activity detection, speech recognition, translation — runs on-device. Zero external servers.

~600 ms / partial

At the speed of speech.

Rolling partials stream into the caption card while you're still talking. By the time you pause, the sentence is committed.

No internet. No problem.

Airplane, subway, mountain trail — Ora works wherever your Mac does.

Never leaves your Mac.

Verify with Little Snitch. There's nothing outbound.

EN · "It's raining cats and dogs."
ZH · 外面下着倾盆大雨。

Word for meaning.

On-device LLM tuned for streaming captions — handles idioms, technical terms, and nuance.

Free. Forever.

Ora is free to download, free to use, free to keep. No accounts. No subscriptions. No ads. Not now, not ever.

Every language

Speak any language. Read any language.

How it works

Four stages. One GPU. Zero network.

Stage 1
Mic
AVAudioEngine captures 16 kHz PCM.
Stage 2
VAD
Silero endpointing with hysteresis.
Stage 3
ASR
On-device speech recognition, Metal GPU.
Stage 4
Translator
On-device LLM, streaming tokens to the caption card.

All four stages run via MLX Swift on Apple Silicon's Metal GPU. Partial results stream back while you're still speaking; the final translation commits when a short silence is detected.
